Floating PnL

Shows the profit or loss on open positions before it is locked in.

Floating PnL is the current profit or loss on positions that are still open. It is the live score before the final whistle: useful right now, but not final until the position is closed.

This metric helps show risk that a booked balance can hide. Closed trades may look calm while open positions carry a large gain or loss, so floating PnL explains why equity or NAV can move before anything is closed.

Positive floating PnL can shrink or disappear, and negative floating PnL can worsen or recover. A large value compared with account size means the current result depends heavily on open positions. A common mistake is to treat floating PnL as already realized money.

Example: two open positions show +$300 and -$120. Floating PnL is +$180. If prices move and the same positions become +$90 and -$250, floating PnL changes to -$160 before any trade is closed.

How we compute it

Measured points use the broker's account reading. Between MT4/MT5 readings, open P&L is reconstructed from entry price, direction, lots, a 5-minute quote, calibrated contract multiplier and accrued swap.
