Current drawdown

Shows how far the account is right now below its latest high.

Current drawdown is the distance from the latest account peak to the current value. If max drawdown asks “how bad did it get,” current drawdown asks “are we still in the hole?”

It is used to understand the account's state today. An account may have had a terrible drawdown in the past but be at a new high now; or it may have a moderate historical record while the current drawdown is still open.

0% means the account is at a new high or has recovered. 5-10% is often read as a working drawdown, while 20%+ is visible stress. Current drawdown can be smaller than max drawdown because it measures only the still-open fall.

Example: the latest peak was $15,000 and the account is now $13,800. The gap is $1,200, and $1,200 / $15,000 = 8%. Current drawdown is 8%; if the account rises to $15,100, it becomes 0%.

How we compute it

It is measured from the latest equity/NAV peak to the current point on the same basis as max drawdown. Investment accounts use an index without the impact of deposits and withdrawals so a withdrawal does not look like a trading loss.
