Growth of $1,000 (VAMI)

Shows the account's percentage-return path on one $1,000 scale, without deposits or withdrawals changing the result.

VAMI is an index, not the amount held in the account. The starting level of 1000 puts histories of different sizes on the same scale: above 1000 is growth, below 1000 is decline, and the path reveals intermediate drops.

A deposit does not lift VAMI and a withdrawal does not pull it down. Capital movements are separated from performance, so the line describes the account's return path rather than how much money was added.

Investment accounts use one continuous basis. Before the first measured NAV, the line uses realized history rebuilt from account operations; after monitoring starts, it uses NAV measured by the broker. The difference at the join is not treated as new return. EXANTE NAV updates once per minute, so the latest segment can move during the day; Interactive Brokers updates once daily at end of day.

Example: after a 2% gain, the index rises from 1000 to 1020; after a 1% loss, it becomes 1009.8. A $5,000 deposit does not change the index by itself.

The shape is a signal, not a verdict. A smooth rise does not remove risk, and a steep climb is best read beside drawdown, volatility and the length of the record.

How we compute it

We start at 1000 and apply each TWR return in sequence. All capital movements — deposits, withdrawals and transfers — are separated from performance. At the join between realized history and measured NAV, we split the return into synthetic segments so the transition revaluation does not change VAMI.
